Lomi Lomi massage is an ancient form of bodywork originating in Hawaii. It was performed in temples by Kahuna priests thousands of years ago and has been adapted for our busy, outward focussed modern lives, yet still remains rooted in the deep, Hawaiian wisdom system known as Huna. I was recently fortunate to spend some time learning the basics and experiencing the benefits of Lomi Lomi, with Helena Akashi. Some of the features that distinguishes Lomi Lomi from other styles of massage are its: - Full body and under body strokes, from head to feet - Use of ritual and prayer ( such as that of understanding, forgiveness, acceptance, guidance and hope - all welcome) - Work on the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual levels The touch can help us to release tensions, traumas, dis-ease and negative emotions and bring about peace, deep relaxation, clarity and a clear sense of connection to self and to life. The massage is highly relaxing; a gentle yet strong experience of coming back to oneself, back to your true essence, back to your authentic self - a kind of coming home. In practise, the body is treated as a whole and the massage constantly flows from head to toe following a rhythm and using movements reminiscent of the tides of the ocean. Most importantly Lomi Lomi is performed in the spirit of Aloha: ‘To see the divine in you’ After our days together I had a very felt understanding of the discipline and practise of Lomi Lomi; with new insights, nourishing community connection time, a strong sense of renewal, stillness and gratitude and lots of valuable skills to share. Helena Akashi is an inspiring massage practitioner, personal development coach and dance facilitator working in the south - west and way beyond. She is spreading beautifully, the message of self care - so pertinent at this time. Find her at: www.helenaakashi.co.uk www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/health-43519487/why-i-want-to-lie-down-in-public
An inspiring former dance classmate, lying down for a cause very close to our heart. We're so pleased to have found these simple, portable, solid oak, poster hangers. Made to order in their Sheffield workshop - www.birdandbee.co.uk. The Massage Space uses organic cotton fabric to make soft, light, breathable sheets - free from harmful chemicals, and grown without the use of toxic pesticides, this benefits both the producers and the environment.
